Janet Jackson has revealed an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction that occurred while performing for Queen Elizabeth II in the 1990s. Queen Elizabeth II died back in 2022.
In an interview with British Vogue, Jackson, who attended New York Fashion Week earlier this week, recounted the incident while discussing her iconic fashion looks, including her outfit from the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 1990.
“I was performing for the Queen of England and we were doing ‘Rhythm Nation,'” said Jackson who had a famously had a falling out with fellow singer Justin Timberlake.
“Sure enough, as soon as I squatted, my pants split right in my b–ty crack. I couldn’t believe it happened. I thought, ‘Oh my God.'”
The singer, who famously experienced another wardrobe mishap during the 2004 Super Bowl, added: “And then I started feeling air back there, so I knew it had really happened.”
Jackson explained that she carefully avoided turning her back to the Queen for the remainder of the performance.
“I just faced forward,” she said.
Discussing her Rhythm Nation 1814 album look, Jackson credited fashion designer Bill Whitten.
“He did a wonderful job, a beautiful job,” she said, noting the outfit was inspired by Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451.”

The interview also touched on Jackson’s current collaboration with designer Thom Browne, who created outfits for her recent North America tour.
“I’m so happy he’s become a friend,” Jackson said of Browne.
“There’s certain designers that are just genius to me. Thom is right in there. He’s a true genius and he did this for me for tour. And I think he made it him, but he also made it me.”
